Istrian Food

If you arrive in Piran in spring, taste asparagus, exceptionally healthy, prepared in  many different ways. In summer time your plate will be full of light food and rich marine deliciousness - fish, crabs, shellfish,.. The meals are usually prepared from seasonal products, cultivated or found in nature and  enriched with aromatic herbs. Wines from Primorska region
 
The name ˝Primorje˝is derived from the Slovene words ˝by the sea˝ . The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with an occasional biting northeast wind ˝burja˝, warm summers and mineral-rich soils - the mix of these characteristics being different for each particular winegrowing area. In Primorje region there are four wine-growing areas: Brda, Vipava, Kras and Koper. This mystical landscape gives every year noble wine varieties - Refosk, Malvazija and the aromatic Rumeni Muskat are just some of many wines that you can find in these regions. 
 
Istria Wine Road
You can call it ˝Koper wine-growing region˝, ˝Slovene Istria˝ or the ˝Savrinski hills˝. This region is always something special with its Mediterranean climate, plant life and excellent wines. One of the best olive oil is produced here and from here the first cherries and early vegetables are send to markets further inland. The Wine Road includes wine cellars, ˝osmice˝, tourist farms, wine shops, local restaurants,... The wine road is divided into sections that lead to interesting places: from Socerb to Hrastovlje, from Kubed to Gradine, from Skofije to Debeli Rtic, from Dekani via Marezige and Truske to Koper.
